Hey Friends!

I’ve got brain health on my mind…
Brain health is one of my favorite topics, as it really hits close to home. I started learning more about our incredible brains – and the damage our modern lives can do to them – when I started to feel mentally maxed out. I quickly realized I couldn’t be my best self if I wasn’t committed to my self-care, including my brain health.
As a wellness practitioner, I also see the effects of poor brain health daily in my clinic. We are stressed out, burnt out, frustrated, moody, unfocused, and living life through a fog. I believe we deserve more than that…and it all starts with taking better care of our brains.
Acupuncture is an essential tool for keeping our brains healthy, youthful, and sharp. Let’s learn more about how this simple therapy can offer big brain benefits!

Does Your Brain Need a Tune-Up?

Acupuncture For Brain Fog
It’s easy to know when you need to seek out help for some issues. The nagging annoyance of an aching back eventually persuades you to get on the massage table, and it only takes a few days of stomach upset before you get serious about seeking care.
But when it comes to caring for our brains, knowing when to ask for help can be a little harder to distinguish. We often make excuses for why we feel tired, foggy-headed, or irritable – it’s “just a stressful week at work,” or “just a crazy time of year.”
Our brains deserve our care, just like our aching muscles or troubled tummies. If one or more of the following rings true for you, it’s time to give your brain the TLC it deserves:
  • You regularly feel overwhelmed, confused, or foggy
  • You struggle with insomnia or getting a full night’s sleep
  • You’re regularly tired, even if you do get enough sleep
  • Your emotions feel uncontrollable, all over the place, or unpredictable
  • You feel numb or “blah” towards things you once enjoyed
  • You experience regular headaches or dizziness
  • You are more forgetful and can’t remember simple things
Additionally, here are some common health issues that benefit from regular acupuncture treatments focused on brain health:

The Benefits of Acupuncture on Brain Health

Acupuncture is one of the best ways to naturally stimulate your nervous system and promote healthy brain function. During an acupuncture treatment, the body’s nervous tissue responds to the stimulation caused by the needle. In many cases, this leads to a relaxing, healing effect on the brain and body. In other situations (such as after a stroke) we may choose to direct our treatment towards activating or stimulating the brain.
So, how could acupuncture boost your brain health? Here are some of the most common reasons people choose to optimize their brain with acupuncture:
  • Improves Memory and Cognition
It is normal to struggle with memory loss or poor attention span occasionally, but when it becomes a regular occurrence we need to look to the brain. A forgetful brain is often a stressed one, or one without the proper nutrients and support.

Acupuncture can help get the brain back on track. Studies have shown that acupuncture is helpful in improving short-term memory and attention span. Others show that it can enhance learning outcomes and even our mental performance.

  • Breaks Through Brain Fog
Most of us wish we would feel more focused throughout the day without that second (or third) cup of coffee. Struggling with concentration is a common (and normal) side-effect of a busy, modern life, but when you start to feel as though you are living in a cloud, there is a bigger problem at hand.

Brain fog results from a culmination of several lifestyle and health factors. Irregular sleep, poor diet, and hormonal imbalances are often at the root. But brain fog doesn’t simply cloud your day-to-day activities – it negatively effects your brain, mood, and nervous system in the long run.

Thankfully, we can cut through brain fog with acupuncture. Acupuncture helps to bring clear energy and focus to the mind while also reducing the issues that cause brain fog in the first place.
  • Enhances Sleep
Sleep is one of the body’s most essential functions, yet so many of us struggle to get the quality sleep we need to stay healthy. Not only do our bodies need rest to heal and regain energy, but the brain needs rest to process information, create new connections, store memory, and reset.

Acupuncture helps encourage better brain restoration by encouraging better sleep. With acupuncture, we can target the root issue for why you aren’t getting the sleep you deserve while also promoting a more regular wake-sleep cycle.

  • Balances the Mood
Did you know that a natural “side-effect” of acupuncture is happiness?! Even if you don’t struggle with depression or anxiety, acupuncture works to balance hormones, release feel-good neurotransmitters, and promote an overall sense of calmness. Over time, regular acupuncture can make big changes in how your brain reacts to stressors and perceives daily life.

Lifestyle Hacks for Better Brain Health

Acupuncture is an amazing way to support and stimulate your brain, but what we do outside the clinic matters, too. Here are some simple, yet powerful ways to practice good brain hygiene:

Focus on Brain Food
A healthy diet is essential for a well-performing brain. In addition to filling your plate with lots of vibrant veggies and whole grains, aim to get a good amount of quality healthy fats daily. Avoid sugar, chemical additives, colorings, alcohol, gluten, and dairy whenever possible.

Exercise Regularly
Daily movement helps support the brain by balancing hormones, releasing endorphins, and releasing stress. Exercise for 20 minutes or more each day to keep your brain and body strong.

Meditation and Mindfulness
Your brain needs a workout, just like your body! Practicing daily meditation and mindfulness can help you enhance your brain function while improving your quality of life.

Support Your Sleep Cycle
In addition to getting rest during your acupuncture visits, be sure to catch extra Zzz’s at home. Aim to get 7-9 hours of sleep per night.

Give Your Brain a Break
Glued to the screen all day? Give your brain a break from the constant (and often stressful) input of your computer, TV, and phone screens by either going on a full-day digital detox or by limiting your daily screen time.

Boost Your Brain Power with Acupuncture

Our brains are incredible organs. They do so much for us, yet we know so little about them. Thankfully, you don’t have to understand neuroscience to reap the benefits of acupuncture and transform your brain health.
At Angela Yvonne Acupuncture, we take time to understand the bigger picture of your brain health and how we can help you stay healthy and mentally sharp for years to come.
