Acupuncture for Fertility

Starting a family is a very exciting adventure. For many, this wonderful experience is not without its speed bumps. Acupuncture and herbal medicine are well known for their ability to boost fertility and help resolve the conditions that make conception more difficult. Our clinic works with patients to boost their fertility naturally but also collaborates with reproductive experts when IVF or IUIs are necessary. If you have any of the conditions below or have questions about your own fertility health, come in for a free consultation to find out what acupuncture can do for you.

Advanced Maternal Age

Many women are waiting much longer to start their families, and egg quality can be an issue for some women. Acupuncture is known to improve blood flow to the uterus and to the ovaries, assisting with egg quality and hormone balance. If you have been to the doctor and have heard that you have decreased ovarian reserves, or poor egg quality, acupuncture and herbal medicine may be exactly what you need. Herbal medicine is one of the most effective ways to improve egg quality and enhance fertility. We prescribe each patient a unique formula based on your individual needs. This combined with acupuncture can have extraordinary results.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome may cause delayed or absent ovulation which can prevent pregnancy. Some of the key symptoms of this disorder are weight gain, irregular cycles (or absent cycles), unusual hair growth, and oily skin with acne. Acupuncture and herbs can help with this type of imbalance, boosting fertility and alleviating these negative symptoms.

The main symptom of endometriosis is intense pelvic pain with the period. Some women will also experience pain with intercourse or pain with bowel movements. This condition is characterized by endometrial tissue (tissue that normally lines the inside of the uterus) growing outside of the uterus over the ovaries and pelvic area. Acupuncture and herbs can help decrease the pain of endometriosis as well as regulate the hormones involved in maintaining an appropriate uterine lining.

Luteal Phase Defect

The Luteal Phase is the second have of the menstrual cycle, beginning at ovulation and lasting until the first day of the next period. In a healthy cycle, you should get your period 14 days after you ovulate. If you frequently have your period 7-10 days after ovulation, you may not have enough progesterone to support a healthy pregnancy. Herbal medicine along with acupuncture can do a great deal towards boosting your progesterone naturally and elongating your cycle. This drastically improves your chances of getting pregnant and decreases risk of miscarriage.

Unexplained Infertility

Perhaps the most frustrating diagnosis of all, unexplained infertility affects a wide range of individuals. Chinese Medicine looks at the body through a different lens, which allows us to see small imbalances in the body that may not be showing up on blood tests or physical exams. If you are having trouble conceiving, but no one has been able to tell you why acupuncture and herbal medicine can help.

Male Infertility

Many couples fail to assess sperm quality and male factor fertility when trying to fall pregnant. With the increased toxin load in our environment and high-stress levels, sperm quality has been decreasing over the last several years. Here is a bit more information about sperm quality in crisis. Even in a young, healthy man, sperm quality may be compromised. For your best chances of conceiving a healthy baby and carrying it to term, sperm health must be addressed. Acupuncture, Herbal medicine and supplements often help strengthen sperm and boost fertility. Whether you have a diagnosed sperm quality problem or you just want to give yourself the best chance of conceiving, acupuncture and herbal medicine is a great option.
